Lucknow: In an innovative initiative aimed at improving public transport regulation and safety, Lucknow Police conducted a special registration drive in the Naka police station area without issuing a single challan or seizing any vehicle.
The campaign was organized at the Dugawa Police Outpost, where police set up a mini registration center equipped with cyber café facilities to enable on-the-spot barcode-based registration of e-rickshaws, auto-rickshaws, and Vikram vehicles.
Instead of taking punitive action, officers facilitated the registration process by assisting drivers in submitting the required documents and completing formalities at the site itself. The initiative was widely appreciated by vehicle operators, who welcomed the police’s supportive and awareness-driven approach.
According to officials, more than 100 e-rickshaws, auto-rickshaws, and Vikram vehicles have already been successfully registered under the campaign. The drive is being conducted across various police outposts in the Naka area to create a comprehensive database of public transport vehicles operating in the locality.

Police authorities stated that the primary objective of the campaign is to bring vehicle operators into the regulatory framework, verify their identities, strengthen crime prevention measures, and improve traffic management. The initiative is also expected to enhance passenger safety by ensuring better monitoring and accountability of public transport services.
Officials added that similar drives will continue in the coming weeks as part of efforts to build a safer, more organized, and technology-enabled transportation system in the city.
